You Know You're a Writer When:

  • You are awakened in the middle of the night by a story that insists you tell it RIGHT NOW...and you do.
  • You have to think things over...by writing them down.
  • You got books for your birthday...or gift cards to buy books.
  • You've belonged to writers groups...plural.
  • The people who most influenced your life...are fictional characters.
  • You have notebooks, scraps of paper, bits of paper napkin...with writing on them.
  • You can't remember all the stuff you've written or published...and are pleasantly surprised when you rediscover it.
  • You often use words in stories...that you've never spoken or used in conversation.
  • when autographed books by your admired writers are your most cherished
    possessions.
  • You invent words such as 'liminous' (splice of liminal and luminous) and actually live such words. (Susana Short).
  • Someone asks you to close your eyes and imagine paradise you see yourself in a secluded place (beach, forest,
etc.) penning or keyboarding 'paradise' away. (Susana Short)
  • You realize you're still learning how to do it right and constantly work to hone your craft. (Arnie Bernstein)
  • Oh, and you're getting paid diddly-squat for a lot of hard work. (Arnie Bernstein)
  • Your sentences finish themselves. (Robert C. Carroll)
